What is Investment casting

Make the wax pattern according to the required size and shape, and covered the pattern with refractory slurry and dry it many times, then formeing a hard shell outside the wax pattern. When melting the wax pattern by heating, we can obtain cavities formed by the refractory. Pouring the molten metal into the cavity. ,Breaking the refractory we can get the metal castings we need after the metal solidifies in the cavity.


Investment casting is also called as lost wax casting,.It is a precision casting process that is capable of manufacturing high precision and complex castings. The investment casting process can be divided into the following steps: making mold, making wax pattern, assembling wax pattern tree, making pattern shell, dewaxing, pouring and part cleaning.


Step 1--- Making Mold

According to the shape, dimensions and tolerances required on the drawings process the required cavities at the machining center with aluminum or steel.


Step 2--- Making wax pattern

Fill the molten wax into the mold, and we will get the pattern we need when the wax cooling.


Step 3--- Assembling wax tree

Assembling the wax pattern onto a wax frame to form a wax tree.


Step 4--- Making model shell

The wax tree is covered with multiple layers of refractory materials, each layer is fully dried, and after the process that forms a hard shell outside the wax tree.


Step 5--- De-waxing

Put the wax tree covering the hard shell into the de-waxing autoclave, the wax will melt and flow out and we will get the cavity formed by the refractory hard shell。


Step 6--- Pouring

Pouring the melted metal into the cavity, and after the metal cooled and solidifies, breaking the hard shell, we will get the casting-trees formed by the raw parts.


Step 7 - cutting and cleaning

Cutting the parts from the casting-trees, By grinding, shot blasting or sandblasting, removing the gates, flying edges, burrs and surface oxide skins and finally we will get the castings we need


These completed castings can perform the next process, such as CNC-machining, polishing, plating, coating, etc.
